Meet That Mama In Charge: The Moment I Took Back My Life
There’s a moment in every single mom’s life where survival mode stops being enough.
For me, it happened on a quiet weekday morning. One of those ordinary days that suddenly becomes a line in the sand. My son was having a rough time. One of those emotional mornings where the world feels too big and school feels impossible. He needed me. Not the version of me sprinting out the door with a travel mug and a tight schedule. Not the “I have to be at work by 8:30” version. He needed the mom who could say, Take a breath. We have time. We can slow down today.
And I couldn’t.
I didn’t have the freedom to give him what he needed in that moment. That’s when it hit me: my life wasn’t mine. Not truly. Not the way I wanted it to be… not the way I promise my kids their futures can be.
But that moment wasn’t the only wake-up call.
Around the same time, my financial reality hit me with a force I couldn’t ignore anymore. I was running out of financial runway.
It was the kind of moment where you see your life from the outside and think, If something doesn’t change, I won’t make it out of this.
That morning, the weight of everything pressed in at once: the job I’m tied to, the bills I’m barely covering, the pressure of doing this alone, the fear of running out of options.
And also, quietly but clearly, the realization that something had to shift. Not someday. Not “when things get better.”
Right now.
That was the beginning of That Mama In Charge. Not the blog itself, but the decision behind it: the decision to stop surviving and start taking my life back.
What “Taking Back My Life” Really Means
When I say I’m taking back my life, I don’t mean “quitting everything and running off to Bali.”
I mean something far more grounded, and far more powerful.
I mean becoming financially strong enough to afford my life, and actually enjoy my life.
I mean having the freedom to adjust my day based on what my kids need, not what my employer expects.
I mean showing up for the emotional moments. The hard mornings, the tears, the real-life struggles, without the constant pressure of work hours and PTO balances.
Taking back my life means building something that gives me breathing room.
It means choosing a future where I’m not drowning in bills or rationing groceries or hoping I never get sick because there’s no buffer. It means creating a life where flexibility isn’t a luxury, but the norm.
And maybe most importantly:
It means leading by example.
Because I talk to my kids all the time about money. About saving young. About investing early. About finding what makes them unique and building something from it. I teach them mindset, resilience, creativity, purpose.
But the truth is… I haven’t been living that lesson myself.
I go to a 9–5.
I struggle financially.
I didn’t invest when I was young.
I don’t have extra money now to invest the way I want to.
And I realized something painful but honest:
How can I raise them to believe in possibility, if I’m not showing them what possibility looks like?
Taking back my life means becoming the example I want for them. The example of what happens when a woman refuses to settle for survival. The example of what’s possible when a mom stops shrinking and starts creating.
What I Want You to Feel When You Land on This Blog
If you’re here, you’re probably a lot like me.
A single mom trying to hold it all together.
A woman stretched thin, financially and emotionally.
A mom who loves her kids fiercely but is exhausted by the weight of doing life alone.
A woman who knows she’s capable of more, but is trapped in a system designed to keep her small.
I want you to feel seen the moment you land here. Not judged. Not compared. Seen.
I want you to know that being in a financial rut isn’t a personal failure, it’s a common reality for single moms everywhere. Most of us are stuck in the exact same cycle: working for a paycheck that barely covers the basics, living without a safety net, and trying to be everything for everyone while having nothing left for ourselves.
I want you to know that the overwhelm, the pressure, the fear, it’s not just you.
And I want you to know this too:
You don’t have to stay here.
There is a way out.
There is a path to freedom, stability, and purpose.
And we’re building it together.
This space is your reminder that you’re not alone, and your invitation to reclaim your life alongside me.
Why I Built “That Mama In Charge”
I didn’t build this blog because I have everything figured out. I built it because I’m in the middle of the climb, and I know I’m far from the only woman climbing this mountain.
I built it because the world keeps telling single moms to “make it work,” but no one is showing us how to build lives that actually work.
I built it because we deserve more than survival.
Our kids deserve to see us living with purpose, not just exhaustion.
We deserve stability, not scarcity.
We deserve freedom, not a schedule that owns us.
And most of all, I built it because I reached a point where I could no longer wait for “one day.”
I needed my life to change
before the next bill came in,
before the next emotional morning,
before the next financial dip,
before the last of my financial breathing room disappeared.
I needed to stop hoping for a different life and start building one.
This, right here, is the beginning of that build.
For me.
For you.
For every single mom who’s carrying more than anyone realizes.
